This work follows a lengthy and detailed contract negotiation period and will be delivered across the remainder of 2020, ready for the start of the RIIO2 period in April 2021.

The delivery of the project will be overseen by Projects Director, Andy Smith who commented “I am very pleased to have been awarded this key piece of work from National Grid”. He continued “This work allows us to build upon the knowledge and experience gained undertaking similar projects at Huntingdon and Peterborough over the past 24 months”

John Davison, Managing Director of Technica stated “This is excellent news for Technica and is another example of how Technica can support our clients with any aspect of design work from FEED through to detailed design”.

National Grid (www.nationalgrid.com) own and operate the gas National Transmission System (NTS) in Great Britain, with day-to-day responsibility for balancing supply and demand. Their network comprises approximately 7,660 kilometres (4,760 miles) of high-pressure pipe and 618 above-ground installations.

TECHNICA CHOSEN TO PROVIDE FURTHER SUPPORT TO SGN

Technica are delighted to have been chosen to support SGN Major Projects with significant upgrade works on one of their most significant sites in the South.

The works will see Technica construct a large instrumentation control room for the site which will house the FWACV metering rack, telemetry panels, odorisation control panels and UPS. The control room will also provide power and distribution for other upgrade works planned to be installed on the site later this summer.

Andy Hawkins, Technical Director at Technica said “I am pleased with the performance of our design team who have worked hard to provide the EC&I design for this site and continue to resolve some other technical challenges which SGN face on this site”.

Richard Law, Director of Business Development continued “We are all very happy to be chosen to support SGN again with these works and pleased that we can showcase our construction capability to this important client”. He continued “We have an excellent track record of delivering these types of project, having delivered a number to SGN for the Gas to the West Project”.

TECHNICA TRANSITIONS TO ISO45001 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM 244 222 Technica Ltd

TECHNICA TRANSITIONS TO ISO45001 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Technica were delighted to complete a successful transition to ISO45001 earlier this week and be awarded the certification by the British Assessment Bureau.

The transition, completed well ahead of the 2021 deadline, sees Technica depart from the old OHSAS18001 standard to the ISO45001 management system. The audit was conducted ‘virtually’ over a two-day period and highlighted only three minor comments which were addressed immediately after the audit.

Steve Holliday, company SHE Advisor at Technica was responsible for representing Technica throughout the two days commented “undertaking the audit in a virtual way was not without some unique challenges”. He continued “this result is a reflection on the whole team at Technica and to complete this transition is a fantastic achievement”.

Managing Director of Technica, John Davison stated that “this achievement represents to all external stakeholders, clients, prospective clients and other organisations, that Technica is serious and competent in managing the health & safety risks that are experienced by the business”.

Technica has a fantastic safety record having never had a RIDDOR reportable incident in the history of the Company and being recognised by key clients such as National Grid for an exceptional safety performance. This excellent safety performance continues to be underpinned by the ISO45001 management system.

ISO 45001 is an international standard that specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety management system. It provides a framework for organizations to manage risks and opportunities to help prevent worker illnesses and injuries.

The standard differs from the predecessor OHSAS18001 in two key ways. Firstly, the new IS045001 standard calls for a top-down commitment to safety by making safety and health part of an organization’s management strategy at the very highest levels

Secondly, the standard puts a greater emphasis on risk management. Unlike OHSAS18001, which only focused on controlling known hazards, ISO 45001 requires organizations to take a risk-based approach to proactively identify sources or situations that have the potential to cause harm. It’s part of a shift toward risk management being baked into a company’s operations at every level.

TECHNICA ACHIEVES TOP MARKS IN ACHILLES UVDB VERIFY AUDIT

Technica is thrilled to have passed their annual Achilles Utilities Vendor Database (UVDB) Verify Audit with flying colours, scoring 100% across all eight categories of the assessment, improving their year-on-year score by 3%.

Achilles UVDB Verify is an independent audit of an organisation providing works or services to the utilities sector. The categories covered in the audit consist of Health and Safety, Environmental, Quality and Corporate Social Responsibility and are considered separately for both office and site based works.

Throughout the course of the 2-day audit zero non-conformances were identified. Only positive elements -particularly around the use of site work instructions and the company’s commitment to monitoring and improving their carbon footprint – were of note to the auditor.

Technica’s membership of the UVDB community provides their clients within the National Gas Transmission Network with the assurance and verification that procedures, operations and capabilities meet the highest possible standards. The results of this latest audit further strengthen Technica’s position as a partner of choice to these customers.

Technica’s Operations Director, Robert Gallivan, commented, “Management Systems can only achieve this level of conformity when they are being challenged continually by the business; this excellent result is a reflection of the buy in from all our staff to working with, and constantly challenging, our internal processes.”

Technica provides multidiscipline engineering design, project management and installation works, with areas of expertise covering EPC, EPCM, FEED, design, build, installation and commissioning. For further details, please see our website new.technicaltd.com.
