TECHNICA COMPLETE FIRST PHASE OF HYDROGEN DE-BLENDING PROJECT
Supporting DNV, the global independent energy expert and assurance provider (www.dnv.com), Technica has completed specialist design work as part of a Hydrogen De-blending project.
Known as HyNTS De-blending, DNV is supporting National Gas Transmission (NGT) in developing a hydrogen de-blending, purification, and re-fuelling facility at DNV’s Spadeadam Research and Test Facility located in the North of England. DNV are responsible for designing, installing, and operating the infrastructure. Further information on the wider project can be found here https://www.dnv.com/news/dnv-to-support-uk-national-gas-transmission-with-world-first-hydrogen-pipeline-research-facility-250142/
Technica has provided design and engineering support to develop the control system and associated field infrastructure to operate the Hydrogen de-blending unit and compressor. With much of the technology being ‘new to market’, the Technica engineers have had to overcome complex challenges to deliver a successful project for DNV and the end user.
Speaking of the project, Group Managing Director of Technica, John Davison commented “Our engineers were excited to be involved in this strategically important project at the World’s first hydrogen pipeline research facility and I am proud that we have been able to demonstrate the capabilities of Technica to DNV”.
Project Manager of Technica, Ben Lovelace stated, “Having worked in research and development within the automotive sector prior to joining Technica, it has been enlightening to see how the natural gas transmission system could be used to distribute pure hydrogen as a potential fuel source for transportation”.
Lisa Hodgson, Senior Project Manager, Energy Systems at DNV said: “DNV is pleased to collaborate with Technica to support National Gas Transmission in the development of the world’s first hydrogen pipeline research facility. Our work together has allowed us to overcome complex challenges and advance the potential of hydrogen as a sustainable fuel source.”
