TECHNICA SIGNS AGREEMENT TO DEVELOP NOVEL WIND TURBINE

Grimsby based engineering solutions provider Technica has signed a memorandum of understanding with Liverpool based inventor and engineer David Gilhooley.  The agreement will see Technica support David with the development and marketing of his novel wind turbine DAVE (Dynamic Aero Variable Enclosure).

A prototype turbine is now at the Technica office in Grimsby where their engineering team will establish the capability to mass manufacture the product as well as maximise the power output from the unit.

The DAVE turbine is a lightweight, potentially low-cost solution which is designed to be mounted in a number of scenarios including on top of commercial properties.  The solution is scalable allowing the low-profile turbine to be ‘stacked’ offering the end user a range of generation outputs.

This is the second such agreement signed by Technica as they continue to identify opportunities to provide novel technologies to the renewable energy sector.

Managing Director of Technica, Richard Law commented “We are excited to be partnering with David at the early stages of his development of the DAVE turbine and we look forward to exploring the capability of this technology”.  He continued “It is clear that technology such as vertical axis wind turbines can play an important role in the push for a de-carbonised energy future and we hope that we can assist David with bringing his solution to market”.

“Stacking wind turbines is a unique and liberating idea” said engineer, David Gilhooley. “The key to the concept is to find the right balance between size and output, with the units being supported on a single central column”. David also highlighted the advantages of having multiple turbines that can be used in a wide variety of applications and locations, reducing the need for acquiring more land and Planning Permission – an attractive proposition.

Since incorporation almost 20 years ago, Technica has continued to provide engineering services to the UK and international energy sectors.  They have the capability to support clients with multi-disciplinary FEED, detailed design, construction and service and maintenance support.  They are an experienced EPC contractor and through their project delivery team, have successfully and safely delivered complex projects for a large number of energy and industrial customers.
